In the last few weeks, the meeting for the first year of the project took place in the city of Lille, in northern France. All project partners gathered to celebrate this milestone and take stock of the notable progress made. The initiative, which aims to revalue algae waste, brought together a diversity of experts and enthusiasts.
The event took place over two days, with a packed agenda of activities. The first day was marked by the presentation of the various actions already underway and those to come. Additionally, a visit to Etika Spirulina, a startup cultivating Spirulina sustainably, was conducted. Xavier, who leads this Spirulina farm, shared the story of his project and highlighted the numerous benefits of Spirulina. Visitors enjoyed a tour of the facilities and concluded the experience with a delicious tasting of products made on-site from spirulina. This first day ended with an official dinner for the meeting.
On the second day of the event, participants immersed themselves in a workshop dedicated to the collection and cultivation of macroalgae in Europe, organized by CEVA (Centre d’Etude et de Valorisation des Algues). This workshop was the first of four that will be held throughout the CIRCALGAE project. Various experts intervened to provide a more precise view of the challenges in the algae sector, generating enriching discussions.
The assessment of the first year of the CIRCALGAE project was a resounding success, uniting experts and enthusiasts around the cause of revaluing algae waste and promising a bright future in the research and development of this constantly evolving field. The commitment and collaboration of the project partners have paved the way for even greater achievements in the coming years.
