Tips or steps to run an electrophoresis

Before we start, we need to ask ourselves a series of questions:

What do I want to separate with the electrophoresis? As we know, the electrophoresis is a separation technique, so knowing what I want to separate is essential. 

What size are the molecules/fragments I want to separate? The size of the molecules/particles to be separated is crucial when choosing the appropriate agarose. 

What do we want to do afterwards with the molecules separated in the electrophoresis? The goal of the electrophoresis can be just to visualize the separation of the molecules/fragments or to recover them for further manipulations  

What type of agarose should I use?  The type of agarose to be used will be determined by several factors, including the nature and size of the molecule we want to separate.

Once we have determined what we want to separate, its size, and which agarose we should use, we need to set the parameters of the electrophoresis:

• Concentration of the gel 
• Bufferr that we must use 
• Specific conditions of the electrophoresis such as time and voltage
