Hispanagar joins the European project CIRCALGAE

Last October, the first meeting of the 21 partners that make up the European project CIRCALGAE took place, of which Hispanagar is a part, to discuss and organize the work plan for the next 4 years.     

This project has one objective: to revalue algae waste by obtaining high added value products. Thus, through this project, waste will be transformed into ingredients that serve the industry of textured vegan foods, into health-beneficial food ingredients, into fiber-rich feed, and into formulations for the cosmetic sector. 

In this way, a new concept of blue biorefinery is created, capable of obtaining high added value products while significantly reducing environmental impact, based on beneficial and functional ingredients. 

The plan arises from the need to revalue the biomass of algae, which has been underutilized until now, through new production processes that fit within the framework of the European Union’s sustainable policies. 

During the project, the consortium, of which Hispanagar is a part, will develop 12 demonstration products that will validate the potential of the new ingredients obtained from algae, for these key sectors.  

With this project, we aim to bridge the gap between the algae production sector and the food, feed, and cosmetics sectors, and to make a real impact on the blue bioeconomy in Europe.
