From classroom innovation to global stage

A student project exploring the use of agar for archaeological conservation has gained international recognition after winning the First Lego League national final in Spain.

Developed by students from Colegio Blanca de Castilla (Burgos), the initiative was awarded the Castilla y León Values Award, securing a place at the upcoming Mexico Open in Jalisco.

Agar as a solution for heritage preservation

The project focuses on using agar, a natural seaweed-derived ingredient, as a protective film for the conservation of archaeological remains. Known for its applications in food and microbiology, agar is now being explored as a sustainable and non-invasive solution in heritage conservation.

This innovative approach highlights the versatility of agar and its potential in new fields beyond traditional uses.

Supporting innovation through science and education

Hispanagar supported the project by providing technical expertise and agar material, contributing to the development of this innovative solution.

Encouraging young talent and promoting the exploration of new applications for seaweed-based ingredients is a key part of our commitment to innovation.

Inspiring the future of science

This achievement demonstrates how science education, sustainability, and creativity can come together to generate impactful ideas.

As the team prepares to present their project internationally, this milestone reinforces the growing importance of agar applications in new industries, including conservation and environmental solutions.
