This natural product forms an inert and non-toxic matrix, which is an indispensable tool in a large number of techniques in molecular biology, biochemistry, and cell biology.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>The most widespread use of agarose is to construct gels that allow the separation of molecules by electrophoresis (according to their mobility in an electric field), although there are other applications with a significant impact in the pharmaceutical industry, such as chromatographic techniques (separation of components of interest from a complex mixture) and its use for the manufacture of biopharmaceutical products.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>Agarose serves as a base for resins that offer an advantageous separation method in which different components of a mixture migrate through a column at different speeds and therefore allow the separation of biomolecules with different characteristics (size, charge, etc.), such as proteins, antibodies, antigens, and enzymes, among others.&nbsp;<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span><span><span>In conclusion, agar and its most valuable extract, agarose, are very useful in different fields and industries, ranging from the food industry, home science, to pharmaceutical laboratories.
